Burdwan Diesel Shed was commissioned on 2^nd June, 1971 for the initial holding of 50 locos. At present the holding has gone to 72 locos. Burdwan Diesel Shed is primarily a Mail/Express Link Shed and running prestigious Mail Services viz., Kanchenjunga Express(5657), Gour Express(3153), Hatte Bazare Express(3163), Tista-Torsa Express(3141), Uttarbanga Express(3149), New Jalpaiguri Express(2503), Sealdah Varanasi Express(3133) and others.

The Diesel shed at Burdwan is headed by Sr.DME(D) Howrah who officiates from DRM office at Howrah.DME(D) Burdwan is the shed incharge who is assisted by three AME,s ,AMM and ACMT

      Locomotive Holding :

          The Shed is holding the following classes of locomotives :-

          WDM2(2600 HP)          -       40

          WDM3A (3100 HP)        -        18

          WDM3C (3300 HP )       -        03

          WDS6R (1200 HP)         -        11

          WDM6 (1200 HP)           -        02

 

These two WDM6 locos (18901 & 18902) are a pride possesion of Burdwan Diesel Shed.These are the only two locos of their type over Indian Raulways.Built by DLW in year 1982. These locos are being used for shunting purpose.
